Ashley Ackerman, CPA, has been appointed as a Board Member for the Ronald McDonald House of Central & Northern New Jersey. Ackerman resides in Toms River with her husband and two children. She is a Senior Manager in HFA’s Non-Profit Attestation Division as well as the Director of Quality Control. HFA is a Lakewood-based accounting firm, which specializes in providing audit, tax, and advisory services.
The Ronald McDonald House of Central & Northern New Jersey is a local chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization which aims to alleviate a myriad of financial burdens for families with sick children including hotel and meal expenses. “I was involved with volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House when I lived in Baltimore, and I was always so inspired by the families we had the opportunity to serve. The work that the Ronald McDonald House does, by allowing families to focus on their individual situations and remain close to the hospital where their family member is receiving care, is just so inspiring and critical,” Ackerman states.
By becoming a Board Member, Ackerman aims to leverage her financial expertise to contribute to the success and growth of the Ronald McDonald House. Ackerman says, “I am looking forward to using my background in auditing non-profit organizations as a way to serve as an expert to the organization. I’ve had the opportunity to see many different issues and obstacles that other non-profits have faced, and I can give first-hand insight on how other organizations might handle an issue. In addition, I’ll be able to assist with review and oversight of the financial information, help identify any issues that might come up, as well as any opportunities for the board to address.”
As the Ronald McDonald House creates new programs and plans new initiatives to help families in need, Ackerman is excited that she can be an agent for change for the organization. “As the Ronald McDonald House looks to expand to serve more families, I am excited to be part of the growth,” Ackerman added.
Ms. Ackerman brings over twelve years of professional experience to HFA. Her auditing experience encompasses for-profit entities in both IFRS and GAAP, non-profit organizations, and employee benefit plan audits. Her main areas of expertise include auditing, consulting, single audits, and internal controls. She is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA).
